The three students Artjem, Fabian and Johannes shared one dream: creating the perfect watch in terms of design and quality.
This dream came true in 2014 when the first Kapten & Son watch Campus was designed.
It was only supposed to be a watch for themselves, but after a short time, also friends showed interest and they accepted the first orders. The first 100 watches were assembled by hand in a 14 sqm office.
A few days after the first batch was sold out and it became imminent that they had to think bigger. The result: Kapten & Son was founded.
THE FIRST STEPS.
The demand grew, the space in the provisional office became too small and the workload could no longer be managed by the three founders. Thus, Kapten & Son moved into its first office and hired the first employee.
FIRST STEPS IN OTHER COUNTRIES .
To spread the Kapten & Son philosophy into other countries a second office was established in Melbourne, Australia.
The office in Melbourne marked the first milestone in growing to a truly international brand.
THE FIRST SUNGLASSES COLLECTION.
In 2016 the product portfolio was extended by a new accessory category: sunglasses.
To further spread the Kapten & Son philosophy around the globe a third office was established in New York, USA focusing on the business in North and Central America.
THE FIRST KAPTEN & SON POP UP STORE .
As proof of the concept and to make the brand more tangible the first Kapten & Son Pop-Up Store openend in Cologne, Germany.
THE FIRST BACKPACK COLLECTION .
In 2017 the product portfolio was further extended by a third product category: backpacks.
MOVING INTO A NEW HEADQUARTER .
To further expand the business the two offices in Münster, Germany were closed to merge them into one new Headquarter in Cologne, Germany.
THE FIRST KAPTEN & SON STORE OPENS .
After the great success of the first Pop-Up Store in Cologne, the first non-temporary store was opened in Cologne providing customers with a full brand experience.
FURTHER RETAIL EXPANSION .
Five further Kapten & Son Stores in Munich, Germany and Stuttgart, Germany, Hamburg, Germany and Berlin, Germany as well as in Vienna, Austria joined the Kapten & Son Store Family.
THE FIRST GLASSES COLLECTION .
The first glasses collection marked a further expansion in the eyewear segment and represented the fourth product category.
THE KAPTEN & SON FAMILY IS GROWING.
In December the 100+ employees mark was cracked.
OPENING THE KAPTEN & SON OPTICAL LABORATORY .
The opening of the Kapten & Son optical laboratory in Cologne, Germany marked a further milestone in the expansion of the eyewear segment.
THE FIRST KAPTEN & SON KIDS COLLECTION .
True to the motto twinning is winning, the backpacks are now also available for children.
THE HUB BY KAPTEN & SON .
In close proximity to the headquarter, the food concept The Hub by Kapten & Son opened in July 2020 offering healthy breakfast and lunch for employees as well as external culinary gourmets.
